DANNY MITCHELL ALBUM LAUNCH SET

Stevens Point, WI – Friday, May 8th, 2009, 7:30PM:  Stevens Point native, Danny Mitchell, a multi-faceted musician active in composition, performance, and education, will be performing live at Michelsen Hall at the University of WI Stevens Point Noel Fine Arts Center, launching his highly anticipated debut album “A Little More Fight.”  After years of performing in and out of the Midwest and calling Nashville home for the past year, the talented singer and songwriter returns home for an unforgettable evening for all in attendance at this landmark event in the extremely talented young artist’s career.

His original works, ranging from large-ensemble pieces to pop songs, have received numerous accolades.    The Dawning of a Soul was selected as the winner of the 6th annual H. Robert Reynolds Composer’s Competition, and was performed in Carnegie Hall in May of 2005.  Another of Mitchell’s compositions, entitled Anything But Fall in Love, was state finalist in the 2005 BMI John Lennon Songwriting Contest.  In 2006, his song Second in Line was selected as the overall 2nd place winner in that same competition.  The Home of the Great Spirit, written for the Lakeshore Wind Ensemble in the spring of 2008, is the latest of his 4 commissioned large-ensemble works.           

As a pianist, Mitchell keeps a busy performance schedule, regularly playing as a solo artist, accompanist, church musician, or as a member of ensembles of various sizes and genres.  The month of October, 2007 was highlighted by a performance in Aretha Franklin’s band.  As an educator, Mitchell has experience teaching private lessons as well as leading master classes and workshops.  He was a faculty member at the Presbyterian Association of Musicians (PAM) annual conference at Westminster College in 2008.  There he co-taught classes on jazz and gospel music with well-known composer and organist Keith Hampton.   Mitchell holds a degree in Jazz Studies & Composition from the University of WisconsinStevens Point.

The Michelsen Hall venue is perfect for this one-of-a-kind intimate event with the passionate and explosive artist.  The album has been in the works for almost a year, and the concert will showcase all songs on the album plus a variety of others.  Danny will be playing the piano accompanied by bass & drums, with a few unique surprises.  After this event, Danny will be launching the album in Chicago at the legendary House of Blues on Friday, June 5th, embarking on a journey that will take his career to the next level… Come be a part of this exciting debut on Friday May 8th at 7:30PM, as our very own Danny Mitchell takes the stage to make you a part of this unforgettable evening.

Partial proceeds to benefit UW-Stevens Point Delta Omicron. Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity is a professional fraternity in the field of music with collegiate chapters established throughout the United States.  Michelsen Hall is located in the University’s Noel Fine Arts center, at 1015 Reserve St in Stevens Point.  Parking is available North and South of the center.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students, and are available through the UWSP Box Office at the Dreyfus University Center, (715-346-4100), or for pick up at the Noel Fine Arts Center box office, or at Mitchell Piano Works (715-341-8419), & Pamela’s Aveda Concept Salon (715-341-5144).   Please get your tickets early – we expect a full house!
